Lolly’s Locks, a nonprofit that provides high-quality wigs to economically disadvantaged cancer patients, is pleased to announce that nurse, freelance writer, and reluctant member of the breast cancer club, Heather Caro, will be the Honored Guest & Speaker at the 6th annual DC Gala, The Hair Affair DC, to be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm at The Carnegie Institution for Science at 1530 P St NW, Washington, DC 20005.
Heather Caro is a nurse, freelance writer and reluctant member of the club nobody wants to join – breast cancer. In 2012, at the age of 32, she was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and eventually endured an aggressive treatment regimen including surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, as well as a year of targeted therapies. Along the way, Heather lost a great deal – her curves, her hair and her job. But she also gained a unique perspective of the medical system as seen from both sides of the hospital bed. Since completing treatment, she has dedicated herself to speaking out about breast cancer advocacy-related issues and documented her experiences on her blog, MyLifeDistilled.blogspot.com. When she’s not wearing her nurse advocate hat, you can often find Heather hiking, biking and enjoying the great luxury of everyday life with her husband and two young children in Coeur d’Alene Idaho.
The Hair Affair DC will include an open-bar, hors d’oeuvres, dancing, a silent auction, and remarks by both a host and honoree. The fundraiser will support Lolly’s Locks in providing more high-quality wigs to cancer patients in need. All sponsorships and donations from this extravaganza will help make it possible for cancer patients to experience the improved quality of life that a high-quality wig can provide.
